WhatsApp is working on Communities, Emoji Reactions, and hiding Last Seen from My Contacts Except

Meta announced recently that it is going to release Communities on WhatsApp which will assemble different groups with an overarching theme in a new tab that the common admin of all these groups will be able to see and access. The admin will be able to broadcast messages across all these groups from a single screen. The messages you receive can be reacted to using emojis now. Not only that, as per WABetaInfo, Meta has a few other features in the store like hiding ‘Last Seen’, ‘About’, and ‘Profile Photo’ from select people.

WhatsApp Communities tab will gather groups with a similar theme or purpose in one place and the admin will be able to send “announcement messages” to everyone spread across multiple sub-groups in that community. Meta says the Community admin will have other powerful new tools to control how these message updates will be disseminated.

The social media giant has also assured WhatsApp Communities will be end-to-end encrypted for privacy and security.

For your safety, you can be added to a community only if the other person (admin) has your contact number. Also, WhatsApp Communities won’t be searchable or algorithmically recommended.

Even when you are part of a community, your phone number would be hidden from others in the community except for the Admin and folks who are already with you in your sub-group.

New Upcoming WhatsApp Features Announced

WhatsApp emoji reactions, 2GB file sharing, 32 participants in voice calls.

You can soon send reactions to messages with emojis like heart, thumbs up, laughing face, shocked face, prayer hands, and crying face. Group admins will be able to delete “errant or problematic messages from everyone’s chats”. The File Sharing size limit for attachments is being increased up to 2GB. The maximum number of participants on WhatsApp Group Voice Calls will be 32 people soon.

While the company has said the aforementioned features will be rolling out in the coming weeks, you could also expect changes to the WhatsApp Privacy settings as per this leak:

First ever drone-delivered kidney is no worse for wear

Drone delivery really only seems practical for two things: take-out and organ transplants. Both are relatively light and also extremely time sensitive. Well, experiments in flying a kidney around Baltimore in a refrigerated box have yielded positive results — which also seems promising for getting your pad thai to you in good kit. The test flights were conducted by researchers at the University of Maryland there, led by surgeon Joseph Scalea. He has been frustrated in the past with the inflexibility of air delivery systems, and felt that drones represent an obvious solution to the last-mile problem. Scalea and his colleagues modified a DJI M600 drone to carry a refrigerated box payload, and also designed a wireless biosensor for monitoring the organ while in flight. After months of waiting, their study was assigned a kidney that was healthy enough for testing but not good enough for transplant. Once it landed in Baltimore, the team loaded it into the container and had it travel 14 ...
