Xiaomi Mi 10i confirmed to launch on January 5, could come with 108MP quad cameras

Xiaomi Mi 10i has been confirmed to launch on January 5 in India as the latest entrant in the Mi 10 lineup. The company had been teasing about the launch of a new smartphone with 108MP cameras from the past few weeks now and it is now confirmed that the phone set to launch on January 5 is the Mi 10i.

Xiaomi released a teaser video featuring Manu Kumar Jain, Global VP and MD who confirmed the name of the upcoming phone. He also revealed that the Mi 10i has been customized for the Indian market and is an extension of the Mi 10T Lite that was launched globally back in September. The Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro subsequently made their way to India but the Mi 10T Lite was a no-show.

Xiaomi also launched the Mi 10T Lite with an upgraded camera sensor in China as the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, so expect all three phones to have a lot in common. The company has teased the presence of 108MP camera on the Mi 10i just like the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G.

According to a previous leak, the Mi 10i could have 108MP quad cameras, 120Hz refresh rate display and Snapdragon 750G under the hood. These details corroborate with the specifications of both the Mi 10T Lite and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. Xiaomi could price the Mi 10i under Rs 20,000 as the phone goes up against the likes of the Moto G 5G which was launched with Snapdragon 750G at Rs 20,999.

Xiaomi Mi 10i India launch: what to expect?

Xiaomi has confirmed that the Mi 10i will launch on January 5 in India and has teased the presence of 108MP primary camera. The phone could feature a Full HD+ display that supports 120Hz refresh rate with punch-hole notch cutout for the selfie camera.

The Mi 10i could be powered by the Snapdragon 750G and as per previous leaks, could be paired with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB storage options to choose from. In the latest teaser video, the company also mentions the presence of a new sensor and it could be a reference to the ISOCELL HM2 108MP sensor that is paired along with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front, there could be a 16MP selfie camera tucked away in the cutout.

The Mi 10i is expected to have a 4,800mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging out-of-the-box. We will know more as we near the launch date of the Mi 10i in India which is scheduled for January 5.

This week in Android: It’s weird phone week

We got to play with a lot of cool tech at CES 2019 , but little was cooler than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 . Qualcomm had a reference device  sporting the new SoC and we were able to put it through its paces , including our very own Speed Test G . The results are impressive. In other big news this week, we found out  Motorola is planning on bringing back the Razr phone , made famous in the mid 2000s. We don’t know a lot about the phone itself, but we can make some guesses  based on a patent  from August of last year. Plus, we look ahead at the future of LG and OnePlus , including a new peculiar accessory for LG . Also, we have good news and bad news about Huawei’s security. My product launch wishlist for Instagram, Twitter, Uber and more

‘Twas the night before Xmas, and all through the house, not a feature was stirring from the designer’s mouse . . . Not Twitter! Not Uber, Not Apple or Pinterest! On Facebook! On Snapchat! On Lyft or on Insta! . . . From the sidelines I ask you to flex your code’s might. Happy Xmas to all if you make these apps right. Instagram See More Like This – A button on feed posts that when tapped inserts a burst of similar posts before the timeline continues. Want to see more fashion, sunsets, selfies, food porn, pets, or Boomerangs? Instagram’s machine vision technology and metadata would gather them from people you follow and give you a dose. You shouldn’t have to work through search, hashtags, or the Explore page, nor permanently change your feed by following new accounts. Pinterest briefly had this feature (and should bring it back) but it’d work better on Insta. First ever drone-delivered kidney is no worse for wear

Drone delivery really only seems practical for two things: take-out and organ transplants. Both are relatively light and also extremely time sensitive. Well, experiments in flying a kidney around Baltimore in a refrigerated box have yielded positive results — which also seems promising for getting your pad thai to you in good kit. The test flights were conducted by researchers at the University of Maryland there, led by surgeon Joseph Scalea. He has been frustrated in the past with the inflexibility of air delivery systems, and felt that drones represent an obvious solution to the last-mile problem. Scalea and his colleagues modified a DJI M600 drone to carry a refrigerated box payload, and also designed a wireless biosensor for monitoring the organ while in flight. After months of waiting, their study was assigned a kidney that was healthy enough for testing but not good enough for transplant. Once it landed in Baltimore, the team loaded it into the container and had it travel 14 ...
